About The Position

We are looking for an Assistant Controller who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the departments’ financial reporting, treasury, and taxation matters, including the preparation of financial statements and reports. The accuracy and integrity of the data is paramount and must be performed in a highly confidential manner. Other primary duties include managing budgets and forecasts, managing payments for approval, allocating funds as and where required and reporting on the effectiveness of these activities. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance and works closely with senior leadership.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in a progressive accounting role, including experience at the Senior Accountant or Assistant Controller level (equivalent experience considered)
  • Strong foundation in financial reporting, general ledger management, and reconciliations
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • High level of integrity with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational, problem‑solving, and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a multi‑entity corporate structure
  • Exposure to commercial property management, leasing, or triple‑net leases
  • Experience in hospitality or operationally complex environments
  • Experience working with multiple accounting systems
  • Payroll processing experience
  • CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the integrity and accuracy of general ledgers across multiple entities, including AP, payroll, intercompany transactions, fair value adjustments, and other complex journal entries
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports
  • Support the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of financial controls and processes in line with best practices
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance reporting quality
  • Independently or collaboratively perform complex financial analyses and special projects as required
  • Monitor and report on cash balances across all entities, ensuring appropriate allocation and liquidity
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, including ongoing variance analysis and insights
  • Coordinate cash movements and selected payments with private banking partners
  • Provide oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and collections
  • Ensure compliance with payroll and WSBC/EHT remittances and payments
  • Support compliance with provincial and federal tax filings and payments
  • Support the Director of Finance with financial, treasury, and taxation analysis and reporting
  • Contribute to project management efforts by coordinating follow‑ups, supporting accountability, and meeting deadlines
  • Provide mentorship and day‑to‑day guidance to a developing accounting team
  • Demonstrate flexibility in taking on new or evolving responsibilities in a small, collaborative office environment
