About The Position

MGAC Canada is seeking an Assistant Construction Project Manager to join their growing team. This role involves managing and representing client interests on large, multi-sector construction projects. The Assistant Project Manager will focus on implementing robust project controls and will be instrumental in leading high-visibility, resume-building projects. This position requires 4-5 days per week in the Toronto office or on project sites, with potential for remote work as needed.

Requirements

  • Proactive, problem-solving, and analytical mindset.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience in a related discipline (Architecture, Engineering, and/or Construction).
  • PMP Certification
  • 3+ years of project management experience in any phase of the project lifecycle (pre-construction, construction, commissioning, close out, operation readiness).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with project onboarding and setup, including kickoff activities, initial project documentation, and populating onboarding checklists.
  • Support scheduling by maintaining the project timeline, inputting progress updates, tracking look-ahead items, and ensuring field updates are reflected.
  • Manage documentation and records, including organizing submittals, RFIs, transmittals, meeting minutes, change orders, punch lists, and closeout packages, ensuring they are complete, version-controlled, and audit-ready.
  • Act as a liaison between field teams and the office, relaying information, collecting daily reports, and coordinating site logistics.
  • Support procurement activities, including tendering, tracking purchase orders, delivery schedules, and supplier confirmations, and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Log and monitor small change requests, preparing preliminary impact assessments for PM review.
  • Assist the PM in preparing weekly and monthly status reports, dashboards, and progress updates.
  • Schedule and coordinate internal and client meetings, prepare agendas, record minutes, and track follow-up actions.
  • Ensure adherence to project controls standards, contract requirements, and regulatory or client-specific procedures.
  • Collect daily field reports, photos, and field test results, attaching them to appropriate project records.
  • Process, track, and close RFIs and submittals within agreed timelines, following up on outstanding items.
  • Assist with logistics coordination, including material deliveries, crane and site access planning, and trade coordination.
  • Provide minimal on-site leadership to ensure work aligns with plans, QA/QC criteria, and safety procedures, escalating issues as needed.
  • Help coordinate commissioning checklists, turnover documents, and warranties for handover.
