About The Position

Psomas is a 100% employee-owned firm seeking an Assistant Construction Manager for its Construction Management Team in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role will support the delivery of significant water and wastewater infrastructure projects, acting as an owner's representative for multi-million-dollar capital improvement programs. Responsibilities include overseeing upgrades to treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations, and recycled water facilities. The position involves collaboration with public agencies, contractors, engineers, and stakeholders, offering valuable experience in heavy civil and utility infrastructure projects from construction through completion. The role requires daily on-site work, and candidates must reside locally or be able to commute to Sunnyvale and/or Union City for multi-year projects. Future assignments may vary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Construction Manager (CCM); or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with the ability to obtain professional licensure within two years
  • 5+ years of experience supporting construction management, resident engineering, owner's representative services, or design of public works, water/wastewater, or heavy civil infrastructure projects
  • Experience with water treatment plants, wastewater treatment facilities, recycled water systems, pipelines, pump stations, industrial facilities, power generation, petrochemical, or similar process infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of construction administration, contract documentation, RFIs, submittmits, change orders, and project controls for municipal projects
  • Ability to work on-site in active construction environments, including walking uneven surfaces, climbing, and exposure to varying site conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting large-scale public infrastructure projects and/or capital improvement programs is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Support the successful delivery of complex water, wastewater, and public infrastructure projects.
  • Serve as a key liaison between owners, contractors, designers, and stakeholders.
  • Support field construction activities on large-scale capital improvement projects.
  • Oversee contractor performance, quality, safety, schedule adherence, and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, meeting documentation, and project correspondence.
  • Support effective project controls and contract administration.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and construction progress.
  • Identify potential risks, conflicts, and delays and support timely resolutions.
  • Work closely with public agency clients, contractors, design consultants, utility providers, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Maintain alignment and facilitate successful project delivery.
  • Participate in construction meetings.
  • Evaluate field conditions.
  • Support issue resolution and contribute to practical solutions that keep projects moving forward.
