About The Position

CNA Corporation is hiring for the role of Assistant Communications Strategist. The Assistant Communications Strategist supports the Office of Communications across a range of activities and products, including website content management and managing internal communications including the organization’s internal newsletter. Other responsibilities include writing and editing news releases and blog posts, social media management, media relations, website and social media analytics, and supporting outreach events. The Assistant Communications Strategist will also provide administrative support to help manage Office of Communications operations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in corporate communications, journalism, public relations, or related function.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; strong writer and editor with firm grasp of AP and/or Chicago style.
  • Ability to independently write high-quality articles with little or no oversight.
  • Knowledge of web content architecture and applications. Demonstrated ability in content management of external and internal websites.
  • Experience in compiling communications metrics. Knowledge in using native platforms and software to collect analytics.
  • Ability to support event management, including developing custom invite lists, managing event invitation and registration process, and coordinating hard copy and digital promotion materials.
  • Demonstrated technical competence in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge in compiling and distributing communications products such as media reports, journalist lists, newsletters, and other materials.
  • Strong organization and project management skills to effectively track a high volume of information and tasks.
  • Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to solve problems and assess a variety of situations to proactively provide recommendations for best courses of action.
  • Familiarity with cutting-edge and emerging communication trends and tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for positions requiring access to classified information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in government communications or public affairs a plus.
  • Experience using other communications software tools such as Contact Monkey, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Critical Mention, Sprout Social, ServiceNow, Google Analytics, HubSpot, Canva, Constant Contact and Adobe Creative Suite a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with web developers and creative staff to monitor, maintain, and update the external CNA website. This includes uploading, writing, and editing content on CNA research, people, and company information.
  • Produce CNA’s internal newsletter, planning content, compiling and editing content submitted by CNA staff, and writing original articles on company happenings.
  • Coordinate the Office of Communications’ presence on the organization’s intranet.
  • Work with colleagues to develop and post social media content.
  • Assist with media relations and media outreach efforts, including developing proactive media strategies, writing and editing news releases, engaging journalists, conducting media training, and responding to media requests for interviews and information.
  • Monitor various online media outlets for CNA news and compile into reports.
  • Provide ad hoc support to supervisor with all aspects of outreach events, from invite list development to event-day support.
  • Measure effectiveness of communication activities, including website, email, and social media metrics.
  • Supports team administrative duties such as monitoring shared email inboxes, responding to queries, setting up meetings, and compiling weekly activity reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
