Uses technical expertise to coach the assigned athletic activity. This role involves working with student athletes to improve their personal and teamwork skills, providing guidance and encouragement, and upholding district policies and administrative guidelines. The assistant coach promotes a professional image of the school district, encourages community partnerships, and fosters effective communication. They are responsible for understanding program objectives, explaining student responsibilities, and promoting academic success. Additionally, the assistant coach assists with organizing tryouts, carrying out practice schedules, ensuring athletes receive appropriate instruction and opportunities, and maintaining the integrity of the selection process. They also help supervise the preparation of athletic fields, teach injury prevention, ensure appropriate equipment is used, and document injuries. The role includes evaluating performance, developing game strategies, recruiting and supervising support staff, and arranging transportation for athletic activities. The assistant coach models respectful behavior, participates in recognition programs, ensures safety, and assists with approved fundraising projects. They are expected to maintain accurate records, participate in staff meetings, maintain confidentiality, report suspected child abuse, and pursue professional growth opportunities.
