About The Position

The Assistant Coach will instruct or coach teams and individual students in the fundamentals of sports, demonstrating techniques and methods of participation. This role may involve evaluating athletes' strengths and weaknesses as potential recruits or to improve their technique for competition. The coach will plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions in collaboration with the Head Coach, providing training direction, encouragement, and motivation. They will stay updated on rules, techniques, and philosophies relevant to the sport, adjusting coaching methods based on athlete performance. The position requires instructing students on sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles, and evaluating skills to determine athletic potential. The Assistant Coach will represent the program professionally, adhering to sportsmanship and institutional values, and will transport athletes to games. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Has played sport in high school or college or has reached a level of expertise in the sport as an adult through participation coaching or through a formal coaching development program.
• Possess excellent management, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to work with students by building trust and credibility.
• Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a strong customer focus.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Ability to recognize hazardous situations and adopt effective courses of action.
• Ability to engage positively with students, employees, and guests.
• Self-motivated and independent.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and evenings.

• Proficient in MS Office.
• Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
• High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multi-task with accuracy.
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintain a professional demeanor and restraint at all times, including stressful situations.
• Clean driving record upon hire (reviewed annually).

Nice To Haves

• College degree preferred.
• Experience in an academic institution preferred.
• Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions with collaboration of Head Coach.
• Provide training direction, encouragement, and motivation in order to prepare athletes for games, competitive events, and/or tours.
• Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport.
• Adjust coaching techniques based on the strengths and weaknesses of athletes.
• Instruct individuals or groups in sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles such as specific ways of moving the body, hands, and/or feet in order to achieve desired results.
• Evaluate athletes' skills, and review performance records, in order to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics.
• Represent the program in a professional manner and within the bounds of good sportsmanship and values of PEA.
• Transport athletes to games with academy van or minibus.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
