About The Position

The Assistant Women’s Gymnastics Coach will assist the head coach in planning, fundraising and administration of the Women’s Gymnastics program. This includes coaching, spotting, meet management, maintaining equipment and recruiting talented student-athletes to enhance performance of a highly visible sport to compete successfully against opponents at the NCAA Division I level, while ensuring the welfare of the student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Previous coaching experience.
  • Providing appropriate safety/spotting ability.
  • Knowledge of maintaining gymnastics equipment.
  • Comfortable spotting high level gymnastics skills.
  • Experience as a NCAA coach.
  • Former gymnast.
  • Experience in recruiting high level gymnasts.
  • Office administration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in training, developing and retaining athletically talented student-athletes to compete successfully against opponents while ensuring the welfare and safety of student-athletes.
  • Assist head coach in all aspects of practice preparation, pre-game strategies and in-meet management.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of a strong alumni, parent and booster support for the team.
  • Work with the Wildcat Fund and UNH Foundation in an effort to increase annual contributions and scholarships for the team and the Athletics Department.
  • Assist with the Community Gymnastics program, summer camps and clinics including development, scheduling, marketing and program administration.
  • Encourage student-athletes to perform to their highest academic potential, monitor, advise and assist the academic progress of student-athletes toward degree requirements to remain eligible.
  • Monitor the retention eligibility of student-athletes as it impacts the gymnastics academic progress rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
  • Assess talent and actively recruit talented student athletes to the emphasized program who are suitable for the UNH academic programs.
  • Assist in developing strategies to increase the visibility and attendance at home and away events.
  • Promote the sport in the state, New England, the region and nationally.
  • Assist the head coach in the pursuit of strong print and electronic media attention.
  • Assist the head coach with the administration of the program as assigned.
  • Assist in the hiring, training and supervision of the second assistant.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the equipment and development of the gymnastics facility to safely and effectively train NCAA Division I student-athletes.
  • Pass the NCAA coaches certification test, attend all mandatory NCAA compliance meetings and maintain appropriate forms and documentation in office files to be reviewed upon request.
  • Participate in athletic department meetings, represent the University on regional and national committees where appropriate.
  • Maintain competency with respect to knowledge of and compliance with state and federal laws, university policies/regulations, conference rules/policies, and NCAA rules, and report to the Director of Athletics your knowledge of any violation of NCAA, conference and/or institutional rules.
