About The Position

The Athletics Department at Cal State LA is seeking applications for two (2) part-time Assistant Coach positions for the Women’s Basketball program. Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will support all aspects of an NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics program competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Responsibilities include assisting with practice planning and execution, player development, game preparation, recruiting, camps, equipment coordination, scheduling, statistical tracking, administrative operations, fundraising activities, and team travel. The Assistant Coach is responsible for ensuring adherence to all institutional, CCAA, and NCAA rules and regulations and supports the mission and values of Cal State LA Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated coaching experience in athletics, physical education, kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Must possess or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification upon hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet university driver authorization requirements throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of NCAA, CCAA, and institutional regulations.
  • Ability to evaluate prospective student-athletes.
  • Ability to support academic success and student-athlete well-being.
  • Knowledge of scheduling, statistical tracking, and administrative procedures.
  • Ability to operate university or rental vehicles for team travel and recruiting.

Nice To Haves

  • Collegiate coaching or playing experience at the NCAA or NAIA level, or successful coaching experience at the high school level.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting prospective student-athletes and familiarity with NCAA recruiting practices.
  • Experience with video analysis and statistical software.
  • Experience assisting with camps and community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the instruction and development of student-athletes in basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive systems, skill development, scouting preparation, and game strategy.
  • Identify, evaluate, and assist in recruiting prospective student-athletes consistent with NCAA, CCAA, and institutional requirements.
  • Provide administrative and operational support, including equipment management, scheduling, game preparation, statistical tracking, and compliance reporting.
  • Support student-athlete academic success, personal development, and overall well-being.
  • Assist the Head Coach in ensuring compliance with NCAA, CCAA, CSU, and university regulations, including student-athlete welfare and institutional conduct standards.
  • Assist with team travel and transportation logistics in accordance with university policies.
  • Support fundraising, youth camps, clinics, community engagement activities, and other related duties as assigned.
