About The Position

Midland University is seeking a Part-Time Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach to join its program. This role involves working closely with the Head Coach on all aspects of the program, including coaching, athlete development, recruiting, practice preparation, team travel, and program administration. It's an opportunity to develop as a collegiate coach and gain hands-on experience in a growing NAIA swimming program. The assistant coach will work directly with student-athletes, contribute to training and program development, gain recruiting experience, and take on additional responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of collegiate swimming experience as a coach and/or student-athlete
  • Strong understanding of swimming technique, training principles, and athlete development
  • Familiarity with collegiate and USA Swimming rules
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Positive attitude, reliability, initiative, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a coaching staff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, team travel, and recruiting
  • USA Swimming non-athlete membership, or ability to obtain

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous swimming coaching experience
  • USA Swimming coaching certification
  • National-level swimming experience
  • Experience recruiting high school and/or collegiate student-athletes
  • Previous experience within a collegiate swimming program
  • CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements, or willingness to obtain

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coaching and instruction during practices and competitions
  • Work with the Head Coach to create and implement training programs for different swimming groups
  • Provide technical instruction and feedback to student-athletes
  • Assist with recruiting and retention of prospective student-athletes
  • Build relationships and communicate with prospective athletes and their families through phone, text, email, video calls, and in-person meetings
  • Assist with practice preparation, scheduling, team administration, and day-to-day program operations
  • Travel with the team to away competitions and assist with team transportation
  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of Midland's nationally competitive men's and women's swimming programs
  • Help create a positive team environment focused on athlete development, accountability, and the student-athlete experience
  • Maintain personal conduct and program standards consistent with Midland University's mission and core values
  • Potential opportunity to coach with the Fremont Area Swim Team (FAST) during the summer season, contingent upon FAST approval
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach
