About The Position

Responsible for assisting with the implementation and management of the Sports Performance program. This role involves analyzing data on strength and conditioning, testing athletes, implementing and monitoring strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs, and instructing proper exercise techniques. The Assistant Coach will also assist in supervising facility operations, collaborating with other staff (athletic training, nutrition, psychology, student-athlete development), and supporting prevention and rehabilitation programs. Additionally, this position will assist with nutrition education, supervise internships, maintain records, participate in public relations and community service, and ensure compliance with all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations. The role also involves assisting with on-campus recruiting activities and promoting the Sports Performance department.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sports medicine, physical education, or a related field.
  • One or more year(s) of post-graduate strength and conditioning experience in intercollegiate athletics.
  • Certification through NSCA or CSCCA.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • CPR /AED/First Aid certifications.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of department/division goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
  • Knowledge of records management.
  • Skill in use of office equipment.

  • Three or more year(s) of post-graduate strength and conditioning experience in intercollegiate athletics as an assistant or head strength and conditioning coach.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes available data on strength and conditioning of new and returning student-athletes to identify potential levels of physical ability.
  • Tests athletes to evaluate performance level and desired areas of improvement.
  • Implements and monitors safe and effective strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs for football and assigned sports, including pre-season, in-season, and off-season workouts.
  • Instructs proper technique for sport-specific exercises, and implements appropriate exercise sequences, sets, repetitions, recovery periods, load, frequency, and intensity.
  • Instructs athletes in correct execution of flexibility and speed development.
  • Assists in supervising and monitoring safe and successful operation of sports performance facilities.
  • Participates in meetings with staff members representing athletic training, performance nutrition, performance psychology, and student-athlete development.
  • Works with staff as needed to assist in the execution of prevention and rehabilitation programs.
  • Works under the direction of the performance nutrition staff to assist in the execution of nutrition education programming, as well as safe and healthy techniques related to achieving body composition and performance goals.
  • Assists in the supervision of internships, including instruction and coaching development.
  • Maintains strength and conditioning records, prepares reports of athletes’ status and progress.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards.
  • Actively participates in public relations appearances and community services activities on behalf of the department.
  • Complies with all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Promotes the Sports Performance department, including assisting with on-campus recruiting activities for prospective student-athletes.
  • Complies with certification guidelines for continuing education.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned or directed.
  • Assists with training new hires.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.
