About The Position

The Assistant Coach, Softball position is a full-time position responsible to the Head Coach, Softball. This individual should demonstrate strong leadership skills while supporting the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and managing the softball program, all while upholding a high standard of academic and athletic excellence. Tyler Junior College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and home to 70 National Championships. The Athletics department at Tyler Junior College plays an integral role in the success of student-athletes and is widely recognized as one of the premier two-year intercollegiate athletic departments in the nation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years of coaching or playing experience
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.
  • Must exhibit a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of each employee.
  • Candidates will be subject to a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous college coaching experience
  • Must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the head coach in coaching the intercollegiate softball team in a highly competitive NJCAA athletic program.
  • Support game preparation, scouting reports, and strategy development.
  • Identify, evaluate and recruit quality prospective student-athletes in accordance with institutional and NJCAA rules.
  • Coordinate campus visits, and recruiting communications
  • Monitor academic progress and promote academic success among athletes.
  • Assists with travel arrangements, equipment management and scheduling.
  • Promote the placement of current student athletes to four-year institutions
  • Maintain compliance with all departmental, institutional, conference, and NJCAA guidelines and regulations.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to student-athletes
  • Represent the university at athletic events, alumni functions, and community outreach activities.
  • Other duties as needed or as assigned by the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Instruction of two sport-specific athletic courses. Courses taught beyond two will result in additional compensation.
