About The Position

The Assistant Soccer Coach (9-month appointment) will hold a 100% 9-MONTH appointment in the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. This role reports directly to UWL’s Head Soccer Coach and will assist in the management of daily operations of a Division III intercollegiate women’s soccer program competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Responsibilities include assisting in the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, and administering of the soccer program to meet University and Department objectives. Additional duties may involve planning team travel, managing equipment, video and technology needs, managing social media accounts, and coordinating camps. The Assistant Coach must conduct themselves in a manner that enhances respect for the university, the Department, UWL soccer program, and UWL student-athletes. This position has the potential for an early start of August 4, 2026. The role requires the ability to lift and move equipment, walk and stand for prolonged periods, and work evening and weekend hours. Travel for recruitment activities is also required. A valid driver’s license meeting the criteria for driving a vehicle on University/State business is necessary, with Drive Authorization required upon hire. UW-La Crosse does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant professional experience may be substituted on a year for year basis in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Soccer coaching or playing experience at high school, club, or collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of recruiting and coaching strategies.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and sustaining a competitive program through the recruitment of quality student-athletes.
  • Manage, post, and engage with all UWL Soccer social media accounts.
  • Identify, observe, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recruiting activities within rules set by the NCAA, WIAC, and UWL.
  • Advance the University’s efforts to increase campus diversity by recruiting diverse prospective student-athletes.
  • Develop and continually maintain recruiting records and logs.
  • Inform prospective student-athletes of opportunities related to education, career, and soccer competition.
  • Adhere to all rules of the NCAA, WIAC, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
  • Implement team rules and policies developed by the Head Coach.
  • Assist the Head Soccer Coach in the development of in- and off-season programs as permitted by applicable NCAA Bylaws and regulations.
  • Promote a team culture devoted to academic achievement and ensure an atmosphere supportive of, and conducive to, academic success.
  • Monitor the academic progress of assigned student-athletes on the soccer team to ensure that regular, ongoing, and necessary progress is made toward the attainment of a UW-L degree.
  • Adhere to all athletic training policies and procedures.
  • Assist, as needed, the Head Soccer Coach and the Athletics Business Manager on planning all aspects of team travel.
  • Assist, as needed, the Head Soccer Coach and UWL’s Camps Coordinator in the administration of all camps associated with UWL Soccer.
  • Assist, as needed, the Equipment Manager in all matters pertaining to inventorying, ordering, issuing, using, and returning uniforms, practice gear, and equipment.
  • Assist local soccer club with administrative tasks.
  • Attend athletic department meetings.
  • Attend appropriate WIAC and/or NCAA meetings.
  • Attend job-related clinics and conferences.
  • Plan and direct the development of student-athletes in the skills necessary for successful competition in the sport of soccer.
  • Assist the Head Soccer Coach in the development and implementation of contest strategy.
  • Implement team and individual goals.
  • Maximize athlete and team performances by assisting in the identification of team strengths and weaknesses.
  • Demonstrate positive sportsmanship by refraining from publicly criticizing student-athletes, university support staff, officials, or opponents.
  • Assist local soccer club by serving as a director within their club.
