About The Position

To assist the Head Coach in the leadership and management of the Rowing program and to achieve successful outcomes, including recruiting elite student-athletes, training and coaching with the goal of contending for national and conference championships. This position is designated as an Administrative Officer and serves without a fixed term and at the pleasure of the President, pursuant to Regents Rule 20102 and the University’s Handbook of Operating Procedures 1-1020, “Officers of Administration.”

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Successful experience as an assistant or head coach at an elite level.
  • Experience coaching NCAA championship-caliber student-athletes.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and provide critical thinking and consultation to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Ability to project the image of the University of Texas and the Athletics Department with dignity and grace regardless of circumstances and environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enhance interaction with student-athletes, peers, alumni, administrative personnel, and the community.
  • Class "C" operator's driver's license.
  • Provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence.
  • If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruiting and evaluating prospective student-athletes to assess their potential for academic and athletic success, providing recommendations to the Head Coach regarding recruitment and roster decisions.
  • Represent the program through public and community relations activities.
  • Assist with all aspects of the program, is given specific autonomy, and shares responsibilities with the Head Coach in such key areas of the program as practice planning, coordination of team play, and coaching tactics/strategies.
  • Assist with training, skill-instructing and developing elite student-athletes in the sport of Rowing.
  • Recruit and coach with the objective of attaining the highest possible outcomes in NCAA competition while maintaining integrity of the program.
  • Proactively promotes the academic, personal, and social development of student-athletes.
  • Assist the Head Coach in the design of a competitive schedule to maximize team and individual player development and performance.
  • Assist in the administration of the Rowing program, including team travel logistics, support staff and business functions, camp administration and budgeting of the Rowing program, as assigned.
  • Liaison and collaborate with athletics, camps partners and key stake holders to deliver a holistic, well-supported student-athlete experience.
  • Represent Texas Rowing, Texas Athletics, and the University through public relations, community engagement, recruiting outreach, public appearances, fundraising activities, alumni events, and interactions with coaches, media, student-athletes, families, fans, and other constituents.
  • May represent the Head Coach at meetings and special events.
  • Drive a UT or rental vehicle on and off campus.
  • Consistently exemplify the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics.
  • Always act ethically.
  • Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program.
  • Actively participate in assigned education and training programs.
  • Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws.
  • Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income.
  • Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR.
  • Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation.
  • In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Texas Education Code Sec. 51.252, this position may be a Non-Confidential Employee as defined by University policies on Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Interpersonal Violence and Stalking. As a Non-Confidential Employee, individuals employed in this position will report incidents of such prohibited conduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator as required by applicable law or University policy.
