About The Position

The goal of this role is to support the rowing program and its student-athletes. The role is interdisciplinary and requires a background in rowing, coaching, and engineering or data analytics, process optimization, or a similar field. The individual will attend practice and/or competition daily to ensure data collection systems are fully operational, student-athletes are receiving feedback, and they are available to assist the program with organization, analysis, and dissemination of data and feedback. The individual will also be responsible for working with student-athletes and coaches to optimize individual and/or boat gearing and rigging (load, force production, seat ergonomics, etc). The individual will also consult with rowing staff members on the following: injury prevention strategies based on ergonomic concepts and technical knowledge of the rowing stroke, recruiting pipeline development strategies, biomechanical principles of the optimal rowing stroke, development of systems to track short- and long-term objectives (budgets, asset acquisition, training, etc). The individual will also assist in other areas as needed. This position provides hands-on engineering and coaching experience in a high-performance athletic environment and requires critical thinking across disciplines. Assists in selection of team members and recruiting activities in compliance with conference, NCAA, and OSU rules and regulations. Assists the head coach in the coordination of administrative areas of program management including, but not limited to, scheduling of competitions and practices, travel plans, equipment. Monitors academic progress of student athletes; audits information from academic support services, ensures compliance with conference, NCAA, and University rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Prior rowing coaching experience, preferably at the intercollegiate level required.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to travel extensively during recruiting process required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience working with NCAA rules and regulations desired.
  • Industrial Engineering background, advanced understanding of Excel, proficiency in CAD or similar 3D design tools, familiarity with Lean principles
