About The Position

The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Coach supports both Head Coaches in all aspects of the University of Redlands Men’s and Women’s Water Polo programs, including planning, administering, and evaluating of various aspects of the operations of both programs. This full-time assistant coach serves a critical role in team instructions, recruitment, and retention efforts in both programs. Reporting to the Head Men’s Coach and the Head Women’s Coach, the assistant water polo coach is responsible for furthering the mission of the University, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and Bulldog water polo programs. The assistant coach must comply with all University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rules and policies. This position requires flexibility to work nights and weekends as well as travel for extended periods of time for athletic contests and recruiting activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three (3) years of water polo coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and attract high-achieving student-athletes.
  • Clear understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics within a private, liberal arts academic setting.
  • A valid California Class C CA drivers’ license with a good driving record is required. Note: Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class “C” driver’s license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of intercollegiate water polo coaching experience.
  • Familiarity and competency with Hudl game film evaluation/editing
  • Coaching license or certification
  • Master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with all administrative aspects of the men’s and women’s water polo programs including completion of all administrative paperwork, team travel logistics, creation of practice plans, business operation, compliance, equipment, facilities, and events.
  • Identifies, evaluates, recruits, and retains qualified prospective student-athletes for men’s and women’s water polo programs to meet necessary roster expectations determined by the Head Coach, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Admissions Team.
  • Maintains effective and consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and Admissions Office.
  • Arranges and conducts on- and off-campus visits with prospective student-athletes.
  • Assists with on-deck coaching, training, and skill development for men and women.
  • Plans, executes, and maintains all aspects of the men’s and women’s program’s social media sites (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  • Scouts opponents and prepares scouting reports for head coaches and team members.
  • Assists the Director of Aquatics with the supervision, oversight and maintenance of the Thompson Aquatic Center.
  • Teaches physical education activity courses in accordance with assigned load during the academic year.
  • A collateral departmental administrative assignment to be performed in support of programs and the department. Such assignment will be determined by the strengths, skills, and experience of the successful candidate.
  • Functions as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by attending all required staff meetings and completing mandatory trainings.
  • Performs other duties and special projects when assigned.
