About The Position

To instruct all student participants in the fundamental skills and knowledge of the sport or activity; to provide an atmosphere for successful individual development through monitoring, evaluating, and reinforcing performance. This role involves developing drill and practice activities, maintaining equipment, enforcing safety rules, and communicating effectively with various audiences. The coach will also promote academic achievement and serve as a liaison for post-secondary scholarships.

Requirements

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Certified in CPR and AED. This certification must be current.
  • Completed the KHSAA Sports Safety Clinic.
  • Completed the KHSAA Rules Clinic for the specific sport in which they coach.
  • Completed the NFHS Coaching Class.
  • Satisfactory completion of State mandated health examination.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in coaching school affiliated sports preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop drill and practice activities that teach and enhance individual/team skill development.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory list of equipment.
  • Prepare and implement a schedule of checking out, maintaining and checking in equipment.
  • Plan and enforce appropriate safety and health rules and regulations.
  • Develop a supervision plan that ensures the safety and welfare of students at all times: locker room, trips, practices, etc.
  • Present a professional appearance.
  • Effectively communicate with all audiences: players, parents, supervisors, peers, and spectators.
  • Model/demonstrate activities and equipment used to develop basic skills or physical condition.
  • Observe, diagnose, and prescribe appropriate remediation activities during practice and game conditions for players and team.
  • Know and apply the developmental stages of each point of the game to the needs and ability levels of the team/players.
  • Supervise students on out-of-town activities, which may involve staying overnight.
  • Trained in bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials and the procedures of dealing with them.
  • Promote and directly work toward academic achievement during the high school career and serve as a liaison for post-secondary scholarships and other financial incentives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
