About The Position

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in the leadership and organization for all aspects of the Sport program, including monitoring both the academic and social development of the student-athletes; observing, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes; developing a schedule for competition. The Coach promotes a culture of respect, inclusivity, sportsmanship, and student-athlete well-being consistent with university values and Title IX requirements. The Assistant Coach is responsible for following the University’s coaching guidelines and expectations including the rules and regulations of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Frontier Conference.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years successful competitive coaching experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to teach techniques associated with sport.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to represent the interests of the University in a professional manner.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Ability to supervise assigned staff.
  • Ability to motivate and contribute to building a positive and productive team.
  • Requires the ability to maintain strict level of confidentiality in the handling of student’s academic records and health information.
  • Ability to travel and work a varying schedule to meet competition and recruiting needs.
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record to be insured by the University’s insurance carrier.

Nice To Haves

  • coaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in recruiting talented and academically eligible athletes in a professional manner.
  • Maintains accurate recruiting records in the university’s athletics management system and adheres to NAIA recruiting standards and contact rules.
  • Supports instruction of the fundamentals of the sport and assesses the skill level of the Student-Athlete to achieve maximum athletic performance.
  • Collaborates with the Head Athletic Trainer to coordinate conditioning.
  • Assists in planning practice schedules and activities.
  • Assists in evaluating tournament fields and course conditions to support the development of competitive strategy.
  • Assists in assessing athlete skills and helps determine lineup placement and tournament participation.
  • Ensures full compliance with all NAIA, conference, and institutional eligibility standards; collaborates with the Compliance Officer to monitor eligibility and report rule violations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • May take the lead role in the program in the absence of the Head Coach.
  • Supports the coordination of fundraising activities.
  • Assists in inventory and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Tracks student-athletes’ progress in the classroom to ensure graduation.
  • Supports the planning of travel arrangements with staff for away contests.
  • Attends required Frontier Conference Meetings.
  • Reviews sport rules and regulations per both the NAIA and Frontier Conference annually.
  • Assists with alumni, community partner, and campus stakeholder engagement to support golf program promotion and departmental initiatives.
  • Performs other as assigned.
