About The Position

This position serves as an assistant men’s basketball coach and reports to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The role operates with a committed understanding that in the pursuit of athletic excellence, the development of students for Christian life and service is also sought. This is a part-time position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to recruit quality student-athletes at the college level
  • Good communication skills
  • A commitment to the values of NCAA Division III athletics and Christ-centered education
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Competency in MSOffice computer programs
  • Affirmation of the Wheaton College Statement of Faith as a faithful expression of one’s own theological convictions
  • Affirmation of the biblical standards for Christian character and God-honoring behavior described throughout the Wheaton College Community Covenant, and promise to adhere to them in personal practice
  • Support of the Wheaton College Christ-Centered Diversity Commitment, the Gender Equity Vision Statement, and the College’s Convictions on Human Sexuality.

Nice To Haves

  • High school or collegiate athletic experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist basketball coaching staff in practice planning, instructing, and reviewing practice video.
  • Assist basketball coaching staff in game preparations.
  • Comply with the mission and vision of Wheaton College; adhere to all College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Assist in scouting of opponents and preparation of scouting reports to team.
  • Encourage and develop personal relationships with student-athletes.
  • Encourage a holistic environment for the well-being of student-athletes.
  • Serve as a consistent role model and resource for student-athletes.
  • Assist the head coach in administrative duties as needed.
  • Assist the head men’s basketball coach with planning/budget for Lee Pfund Classic, team meals during away games, and team transportation.
  • Assist head coach in all aspects of the recruiting process including evaluation of prospects, visit coordination, and ongoing recruiting communication (i.e. calls/texts/mailings).
