About The Position

Wilkes University invites applicants for a Men's Basketball Assistant Coach/Intramurals Director, a full-time, 12-month administrative staff position in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. This role has dual reporting responsibilities: to the Head Men's Basketball Coach for coaching duties and to the Athletics Director for intramural program management. The assistant coach will be involved in basketball operations, serve as the recruiting coordinator, and instruct student athletes in skills and strategies. As the Director of Intramurals, the successful candidate will plan, direct, and manage all campus recreational activities, including scheduling, policy development, staff supervision, and facility coordination. Requirements

  • Significant knowledge of and proven success in coaching collegiate basketball.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference rules is required.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct student athletes in fundamental skills and strategies.
  • Possess expertise for individual player development.
  • Assist head coach in planning practice sessions.
  • Direct camps.
  • Utilize scouting methods for game preparation (on-line or on site).
  • Monitor student athlete academic progress and graduation rates.
  • Serve on department committees.
  • Assist with team equipment inventory, distribution, and collection.
  • Adhere to all NCAA and conference rules.
  • Organize and help direct team fundraising projects.
  • Plan and direct all organized campus activities in a recreational setting throughout the school year.
  • Schedule team and individual competition, coed and non-coed events, single day competition, as well as organized league competition.
  • Develop policy and procedure to conduct intramural programs, i.e. rules of play, championship format.
  • Hire, train, and supervise students who serve as program coordinators and officials.
  • Work with Student Success personnel to generate participant interest.
  • Coordinate all facility requests inclusive of fields, courts, and rooms to host events.
  • File an end-of-year report detailing the number of events offered and participation rate.
  • Submit an annual equipment budget to the Director of Athletics.
  • Utilize other full-time staff members as assistants to conduct activities throughout the school year.
