About The Position

The Men’s and Women’s Track and Field (Pole Vault) Assistant Coach will support the head coach and associate head coach in all aspects of leading a nationally competitive Division III program. The ideal candidate is committed to the student-athlete experience and capable of balancing competitive excellence with academic priorities. The Assistant Coach position will provide opportunities and responsibilities in the areas of athletic performance that include, but are not limited to: Assisting the head coaches with organization and implementation of practice plans and instruction for Pole Vault. Developing competition-day strategies and tactical planning. Assessing and recruiting potential student-athletes. Assessing competition sites and creating scouting reports. Assisting with home meet hosting duties. Assisting with camp and clinic operations. Supporting player communication and feedback. Overseeing team equipment. Assisting with management of social media accounts. Additional Department Duties and Opportunities include: Fall and Winter Season Only: Serve as home contest manager. Opportunities to work alongside athletics communications. Assist with club sports. Year-long Opportunities: oversight of the Athletic Performance Center, assisting with the Center for Athletics, Recreation, and Wellness, and serving on department committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required.
  • Previous playing or coaching experience is required.
  • Capacity to positively interact with and support a culturally, ethnically, economically, and socially diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • A valid driver’s license is required or an equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a coach at the collegiate or professional level of athletics.
  • Coaches are professionals who practically apply foundational knowledge to assess, motivate, educate, and train athletes for the primary goal of improving sport performance.
  • They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs, and provide guidance for athletes in nutrition and injury prevention.
  • The Assistant Coach will work as a member of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics and support the mission, goals, and procedures of the Pomona-Pitzer Athletic Department.
  • They will demonstrate an understanding of the role NCAA Division III athletics plays in the educational process and be able to support the unique balance which must be maintained by the successful student-athlete at Pomona-Pitzer.
  • All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship.
