About The Position

Analyzes performance and instructs student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition in track. Recruit student athletes. Observes players while they perform to determine need for individual or team improvement. Coach players individually or in groups, demonstrating techniques in track throws events. Assists with coaching and recruiting for the Track program. Designs and implements workouts for throwers. Knowledge of and compliance with all rules and changes that occur in the sport of Track. Provides instruction and feedback to the throwers, during and after games. Assists with management of game day preparation and activities. Knowledge of, and compliance with, NCAA rules and regulations concerning recruiting and eligibility. Assists with managing the throws facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.
  • 1 year of experience as an assistant coach and/or as a student athlete in throws.
  • Effectiveness in the recruitment of student athletes and the instructional aspects of coaching.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules (General & Division III).
  • Knowledge of coaching, recruiting, scouting, and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of management, leadership, and teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Critical thinking skills, adaptability, and initiative.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and have a good driving history.
  • May not have more than two moving violations in a three-year period.
  • Current Criminal Background Check (CBC).
  • Ability to work ten hours per week during the fall semester/season.
  • Ability to work alone, with other employees, and have customer contact with students and alumni.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements including balancing, bending, carrying, driving, handling, hearing, reacting, reading, standing, sitting, talking, using both feet, using both hands, walking, writing, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be physically able to endure working outdoors in extreme heat and cold.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or equivalent from four-year college or university.
  • 3 years of experience.
  • Experience coaching collegiate throws, preferably at Division III level.
  • Multiple years coaching at the intercollegiate level and/or any equivalent combination of experience and training (educational courses, etc.) that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
