About The Position

This position is for an Assistant Coach for Girls Basketball for the 2026-2027 season at Vero Beach High School. The role involves coaching duties and requires specific certifications and adherence to employment steps. Steps to Employment as an Athletic Coach: 1. Submit an application for an Athletic Coaching Certification with the Florida Department of Education. 2. Apply to become an Athletic Coach through the district's website. 3. Await contact from Human Resources to schedule an orientation appointment, which occurs after an offer of employment is extended and accepted. The orientation includes a fingerprinting/workplace screening fee of $118.00, payable by credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express only; Discover not accepted). Employment cannot begin until the orientation is complete and Human Resources provides final clearance. Athletic Coaching Certification: Coaches without a valid Florida Educator's Certificate must obtain either a Three-Year or Five-Year Florida Athletic Coaching Certificate. Three-Year Athletic Coaching Certificate: May be issued to an individual who submits an application and a $75.00 processing fee to the Florida Department of Education, and has been approved to volunteer and completes fingerprinting through FDLE and FBI after acceptance for a coaching role. Five-Year Athletic Coaching Certificate: May be issued to an individual who submits an application and a $75.00 processing fee to the Florida Department of Education, meets specialization requirements for the Athletic Coaching Endorsement (Rule 6A-4.0282), holds a valid CPR certificate (American Heart Association or American Red Cross), First Aid certification (including AED training), and has been approved for employment with fingerprinting results (FDLE/FBI) no older than one year. Specialization Requirements for Five-Year Certificate: - Three (3) semester hours in Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries and the effects and dangers of drug use, including performance-enhancing drugs. - Three (3) semester hours in coaching theory. - Three (3) semester hours in theory and practice of coaching a specific sport. Coursework Options: Course requirements can be met through college coursework or the Human Kinetics Athletic Coaching Endorsement program, approved under the School District of Indian River County's Master Inservice Plan.

Requirements

  • Application for an Athletic Coaching Certification with the Florida Department of Education.

  • Possession of a valid Florida Educator's Certificate OR obtain a Three-Year or Five-Year Florida Athletic Coaching Certificate.
  • For a Three-Year Certificate: Application and $75.00 fee to FL DOE, approved to volunteer, and completed FDLE/FBI fingerprinting.
  • For a Five-Year Certificate: Application and $75.00 fee to FL DOE, meet specialization requirements (3 sem. hrs. Care/Prevention of Athletic Injuries & drug use, 3 sem. hrs. coaching theory, 3 sem. hrs. specific sport theory/practice), valid CPR certificate (AHA or ARC), First Aid certification with AED training, and completed FDLE/FBI fingerprinting (results no older than one year).
  • Valid CPR certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (for Five-Year Certificate).
  • First Aid certification, including training in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) (for Five-Year Certificate).
