About The Position

Anderson University Athletic Department invites applications for a part-time, temporary position as Assistant Coach, Cheerleading. Anderson University is an innovative, entrepreneurial, premier comprehensive, liberal arts university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. The University seeks a candidate with a strong Christian value system, lifestyle, and commitment to the integration of faith and learning. The Assistant Coach for Cheerleading, in support of the Head Coach, will be responsible for recruiting, coordinating, supervising, and assisting with leading the Anderson University cheerleading team.

Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to that gained through a Bachelors degree
  • Prior work experience as a successful collegiate spirit coach preferred.
  • Familiarity with NCAA and institutional policies
  • Ability to travel on weekends and holidays.
  • A commitment to the Christ-centered mission of the university is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in recruiting a cheerleading team, consisting of approximately 20 student-athletes.
  • Support the planning and conducting of practices under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Help secure practice facilities through the Athletic Administration as needed.
  • Assist with organizing transportation for athletic travel events.
  • Maintain communication with the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) for information on national competition and assist with preparations to attend.
  • Help coordinate reservations and logistics for cheerleading summer camp through UCA.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA, South Atlantic Conference, and Institutional rules as they relate to the Department of Athletics.
  • Assist in preparing and operating within an approved budget as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Monitor and encourage the academic progress of team members.
  • Help promote special events at selected home games and attend all games where cheerleaders are performing.
  • Foster a positive and motivating work environment and culture within the Cheerleading program.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other coaches and staff to facilitate scheduling, organizing, and management of cheerleading needs and expectations.
  • Support the implementation of a Cheerleading program that aligns with the Christian culture and expectations of Anderson University.
  • Assist in incorporating Troy the Trojan into cheerleading activities and events.
  • Encourage cheerleaders to promote a wholesome environment at basketball and football games.
  • Help enforce disciplinary guidelines as established by Anderson University and the Head Coach.
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed and filed in the appropriate offices (e.g., financial aid, physical forms, drug consent forms).
  • Adhere to all other rules governing athletic teams at Anderson University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Vice President for Athletics.
