About The Position

Under general supervision of the Ambulatory Program Administrator, functions as first line manager responsible for directing nursing care and administrative activities for a specified patient population within an ambulatory setting. Performs duties to support Program Administrator goals, standards and targets. Requirements

  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Graduation from approved school of nursing.
  • Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Professional level of nursing knowledge and analytical ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care and to respond appropriately to patient’s condition by assisting with emergency resuscitation measures as needed.
  • Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and families and others both within and outside the Hospital.
  • Supervisory skills to effectively plan work, orient, direct and evaluate staff performing patient care activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout Brown University Health, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • At least three years relevant experience, with demonstrated clinical and supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Participates with Program Administrator in development of department policies and procedures related to provision of nursing care to ambulatory patients.
  • Participates in interviews, recommends selection, orients and evaluates professional nurse staff and other subordinate patient care providers for designated ambulatory patient population.
  • Recommends corrective action, up to and including discharge as appropriate.
  • Identifies training/development needs of staff to Ambulatory Clinical Manager to ensure continued development/maintenance of skills to meet nursing care standards.
  • Identifies and recommends environmental/technological/personnel resources necessary to meet anticipated needs.
  • Assists in assessment of quality of care, documenting compliance to ambulatory care standards, recommend corrective action and monitors effectiveness of interventions.
  • May assist staff in implementation of new concepts and technology within the area of responsibility.
  • May function in expanded management role in absence of Ambulatory Program Administrator.
  • Regularly functions as professional nurse to provide direct patient care.
  • May participate in department-based research projects.
  • Assists staff to implement approved research findings into practice.
