About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Erie is seeking an Assistant Childcare Director for its Glenwood Family YMCA location. This role involves managing, directing, and coordinating day care and/or school-age childcare programs, ensuring safety and high-quality program standards. The position supports employees in developing strategies for children and fostering a learning environment. Key responsibilities include enrolling new children, facilitating parent onboarding, maintaining daily communication with parents, and serving as a liaison between children, parents, and teachers. The role also involves developing and maintaining relationships with state child care licensing agencies, school administration, and other related organizations. The Assistant Childcare Director will respond to inquiries and complaints in a timely manner, spend at least 15 hours per week in the classroom, and organize special events for parents. Additionally, the position requires maintaining accurate records in accordance with STARS and DHS requirements, ensuring compliance with YMCA standards and government regulations, and participating in family events and program activities.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent, to qualify as a Group Supervisor under DHS
  • Three or more years of related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of childcare programs
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Completion of New Employee Orientation, Mandated Reporter, Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; Pediatric CPR/ First Aid/ AED; Bloodborne Pathogens, and other OSHA required trainings, Fire and Water Safety Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Fulfillment of PA-specific pre-hiring standards (Act 33/34, FBI Clearance, Pass Physical and Mantoux Tine test) and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
  • Negative TB test

Responsibilities

  • Manage, direct, and coordinate day care and/or school age childcare programs for the assigned location.
  • Ensure all high-quality program standards and procedures are followed, with a focus on safety.
  • Support employees by helping to develop strategies for the children in your care and provide an environment for learning.
  • Actively enroll new children and facilitate the onboarding of each child and his/her parents into the Y Program along with the classroom teacher.
  • Communicate with parents on a daily basis, serving as a key liaison between children, their parents, and the teachers.
  • Develop or maintain relationships with state child care licensing agencies, school administration, parent groups, and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Respond to all agency, parent, and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Spend time in the classroom a minimum of 15 hours per week, as scheduled or needed.
  • Organize special events for parents.
  • Keep records up to date and accurate in accordance with STARS and DHS requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA standards and government regulations.
  • Attend and participate in all family events and program activities as assigned.
