As an Assistant Chief Engineer at JLL, you'll play a critical role in maintaining operational excellence across a dynamic commercial property portfolio. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, you'll help lead a talented facilities team in delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable building operations that create exceptional experiences for occupants and clients alike. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in building engineering, facilities maintenance, or property operations with demonstrated technical expertise
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation/controls
  • Valid stationary engineer license, universal EPA certification, or other relevant trade certifications as required by local jurisdiction
  • Proven leadership experience including supervising technical staff, managing contractors, and coordinating maintenance activities across multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with strong analytical skills to diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective solutions
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, tenants, vendors, and team members at all levels
  • Physical ability to perform facility inspections, climb ladders, work in mechanical spaces, and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or related discipline
  • Experience in commercial real estate, corporate facilities, or property management environments managing Class A office buildings or mixed-use properties
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Building Operator Certification (BOC), or similar professional credentials
  • Demonstrated experience with energy management programs, sustainability initiatives, and LEED-certified buildings
  • Familiarity with building automation systems from major manufacturers (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Tridium)
  • Experience managing capital improvement projects from planning through implementation including budget development and stakeholder coordination
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, local building codes, and environmental compliance requirements relevant to commercial facilities

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in managing daily operations of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life safety systems to ensure optimal performance and regulatory compliance
  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance staff and contractors to ensure timely and effective completion of work orders and preventive maintenance activities
  • Monitor and maintain building automation systems to optimize energy efficiency and operational performance while reducing environmental impact
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities to identify potential issues before they become problems, ensuring proactive maintenance and minimizing downtime
  • Support the implementation of sustainability initiatives and compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations that align with JLL's commitment to shaping the future of real estate for a better world
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide technical expertise to resolve building-related problems with urgency while protecting occupant safety and building integrity
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventories, and compliance documentation using computerized maintenance management systems
  • Collaborate with property management, vendors, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality facility services that create exceptional client experiences
  • Participate in training and development programs to stay current with industry best practices and JLL standards while supporting each other's wellbeing and professional growth
