About The Position

The Assistant Chief Engineer supervises maintenance and repair activities within the hotel, reporting directly to the Chief Engineer. This role involves managing construction and remodeling projects, acting as a liaison between the engineering team and other departments, and ensuring all maintenance and repairs are completed efficiently and according to specifications. The position also requires maintaining a preventative maintenance program, overseeing departmental safety, and recruiting and training engineering staff.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum level 3 EPA Certification for refrigerant reclaim.
  • Specialized technical crafts (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
  • Detail oriented.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to train and lead others.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years college/vocational training in electrical or mechanical engineering or plumbing.
  • 6 years' work experience.
  • Professional Certification and license if required by law.
  • Exemplary performance.

Responsibilities

  • Handling construction/remodeling projects with an emphasis in the scheduling and coordination of general contractor work.
  • Acting as a liaison between the Engineering team and Chief Engineer, and other departments and guests as needed.
  • Supervising the flow of information coming into the department to ensure all situations are handled appropriately and assisting with difficult calls.
  • Supervising and assisting engineering staff in the maintenance and repair of plumbing, hotel rooms, A/C and heating, ice machine, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, refrigeration, laundry, emergency generators, switch rooms, etc.
  • Ensuring all maintenance and repairs are completed on a timely, cost-effective basis and according to specifications.
  • Ordering necessary materials and tools for repairing equipment and keeping within budgetary guidelines.
  • Maintaining an ongoing preventative maintenance program for the hotel.
  • Administering and documenting equipment preventative maintenance and guest room preventative maintenance.
  • Ensuring the safety of the department and the building.
  • Providing a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.
  • Following company policies and procedures and effectively communicating them to subordinates.
  • Aggressively recruiting and staffing the department using company hiring standards (i.e., behavioral questioning, reference checks, evaluations, and team interviews).
  • Reviewing performances and assisting in career development.
  • Conducting training classes regarding safety, security, department procedures, and service guidelines.
  • Ensuring the hotel is in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, including OSHA, EEOC, Wage Hour, and Health laws.
  • Ensuring all fire and safety inspections are completed and any discrepancies are corrected.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer and management.
  • Interacting with vendors for purchasing and receiving supplies.
