The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and repair of all building systems within a commercial property portfolio. This role helps ensure the facilities are operating efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable regulations and company standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in commercial building engineering or facilities maintenance
  • Experience in a multi-building commercial environment preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Valid engineering licenses/certifications preferred (Blue on Blue strongly preferred)
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a multi-building commercial environment
  • Leadership or supervisory experience
  • Valid engineering licenses/certifications (Blue on Blue strongly preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of commercial building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and mechanical systems
  • Support preventative maintenance programs and ensure timely completion of work orders
  • Troubleshoot and resolve building system issues and equipment failures
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and building management as needed
  • Assist with supervising engineering staff and providing technical guidance
  • Monitor building performance and recommend operational improvements
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, OSHA standards, and company policies
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, reports, and documentation
  • Support emergency response activities and after-hours situations when required
  • Assist with budgeting, inventory management, and procurement of materials and equipment
