Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama.
  • Completion of an accredited course in anesthesia training.
  • 1 year of experience as a certified nurse anesthetist Required.
  • CRNA - Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - Licensure with the state of Alabama as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certification with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Upon Hire Required.

Responsibilities

  • Support and facilitate for the Chief CRNA, accomplishing departmental goals set by the Chief CRNA and Director of Anesthesia, and ensuring Rules/Policies/Procedures for the department are being supported.
  • Facilitate the day-to-day activities of the anesthesia department in collaboration with the Chief CRNA's direction.
  • Collaborate with staff CRNAs to develop and implement the myStaff scheduling and staffing plan, with final approval via Chief CRNA. Communicate operational needs to the Chief CRNA and the Medical Director of Anesthesia to ensure proper staffing and help fulfill staffing requirements.
  • Assist with clinical education and career development of staff.
  • Aid with the day-to-day management of the Anesthesia Techs and oversee their scheduling.
  • Assist with the recruitment process, gathering information.
  • Support all personnel as valuable assets to the institution; demonstrate strong interpersonal skills; coach and mentor staff and students. Learn new skills and teach others.
  • Assist with a budget that meets departmental needs within the framework of the Chief CRNA's needs.
  • Enforce all compliance requirements and policies and perform these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values.
  • Facilitate staff participation in in-services, departmental meetings, and educational activities to learn new skills and for continued development.
  • Maintain open and transparent communication with the Chief CRNA. Work as a team with the Chief CRNA to implement changes to the department.
  • Collaborate with the Chief CRNA to facilitate communication with Anesthesia staff.
  • Maintain records of attendance at weekly meetings.
  • Work with the Chief CRNA to obtain Class A credits for educational meetings.
  • Assist with developing and implementing updates to policies and procedures in collaboration with the Chief CRNA according to JACHO and Hospital standards.
  • Support the Mission of USA UH/CW Hospitals translating and incorporating institutional mission, vision, and values to staff and others. Provide an environment that supports medical, nursing, and allied health and professionally performs all duties.
  • Be a Role model for all staff.
  • Assist with assuring personnel are competent to carry out their essential duties and that competency skills are completed annually.
  • Utilize ICARE methodology [Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence).
  • Maintain standards of practice consistent with current research findings adhering to current infection control, national patient safety goals, and accreditation standards, facilitated cooperative and collaborative relationships among disciplinary/departments to ensure effective delivery of services to support quality patient care.
  • Encourage and participate in planning and program development to facilitate the effective delivery of services that support quality patient care.
  • Communicate and use appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and health care team in person, via telephone, and respond to overhead pages and beepers in a timely manner.
  • Keep and follow through on promises and commitments. Be dependable, consistent, and predictable.
  • Help to maintain staff compliance with performance expectations. Work with the Chief CRNA if disciplinary actions are needed.
  • Other duties can be assigned via the Chief CRNA and will be explained in direct and transparent communication with the Chief CRNA and Assistant Chief CRNA in agreement.
  • Complete all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements.
  • Adhere to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as assigned.
