About The Position

This position is open to internal candidates only. The purpose of this role is to provide leadership and oversight to the airplane flight training courses by working with flight instructors, students, and the various departments throughout UND Flight Operations. The role involves ensuring compliance with FAR Part 141, working with the FAA, certifying student records, managing training course outlines, and conducting student review boards. It also includes flight training and stage checks, with a requirement of 200 hours of student contact time and conducting advanced stage checks. The position promotes and participates in the Safety Management System (SMS) culture, involving accident/incident reviews, safety risk assessments, and participation in various committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, or related field; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Previous supervisory and managerial experience in Part 141 flight training.
  • Commercial pilot certificate, single and multi-engine class ratings, and instrument airplane rating.
  • FAA Certified flight instructor airplane, single-engine and multi-engine, and instrument airplane rating.
  • Valid FAA Medical certificate.
  • Meet the minimum requirements in Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 141.36(b), requiring: 500 Hours of pilot in command time and flight instructor experience, acquired as either a certified flight instructor or an instructor in a military pilot flight training program, or a combination thereof, consisting of at least 1 year, and a total of 250 hours dual given or 500 total flight hours.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.
  • Ability to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with UND Aerospace operations and flight training programs.
  • Experience with UND Policies and Procedures including but not limited to: travel, human resources, purchasing, and safety protocols.
  • Experience with UND Aerospace Aviation Information Management System (AIMS) software.
  • FAA Certified flight instructor airplane multi-engine.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel/advise CFI’s on TCO content, requirements and flight records.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR Part 141.
  • Work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for responsibilities assigned.
  • Certify student records for Part 141 graduation.
  • Participation with Flight Operations Meeting, CFI Workshops and Safety Seminars.
  • Counsels students and CFI’s to improve performance.
  • Mentor students and CFI’s to improve performance.
  • Mentor assigned lead Flight Instructors.
  • Address questions and concerns from students, parents, and clients.
  • Manage, revise, and write training course outlines.
  • Conduct various meetings with students, employees, and clients.
  • Oversee flight records.
  • Oversee student groups.
  • Oversee freshman orientations.
  • Provide flight training oversight associated with the academic courses in the undergraduate program and UND Aerospace Foundation contract training.
  • Suggest changes for the improvement of any aspect to UND Flight Operations.
  • Assist in the performance of other duties as assigned by the Director of Flight Operations or Chief Flight Instructor.
  • Conduct student review boards.
  • Assume Chief CFI duties and responsibilities in their absence.
  • Conduct 200 hours of student contact time.
  • Conduct advanced stage checks.
  • Promotes and participates in the Safety Management System (SMS) culture.
  • Conduct accident, incident, occurrence reviews.
  • Involvement in Safety risk assessment (SRA).
  • Participation in various committees; ERT, Safety Council, SMS, ATC.
  • Manager of Duty responsibilities.
  • Assist the Director of Aviation Safety with any request, concern, or project.
