About The Position

This is a temporary, non-exempt position at Huguenot High School, reporting to the School Principal and Student Activities Director. The role involves coaching cheerleading activities sanctioned by the Virginia High School League (VHSL), planning practice sessions, developing participants' skills, and assisting with the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches. The coach will also collaborate on purchasing uniforms and equipment, oversee the maintenance and safety of facilities and equipment, and ensure adherence to VHSL and RPS division regulations. Responsibilities include enforcing discipline and sportsmanship, managing school property issued to participants, and planning an annual recognition program. The position requires performing other related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed teacher regularly employed by the School Board, or have special permission from the Superintendent's office and the Virginia High School League (VHSL) in order to coach or sponsor an activity.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to develop and manage athletic activities sanctioned by VHSL.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coaching activities sanctioned by the Virginia High School League.
  • Planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
  • Coaching individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
  • Assisting in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of assistant coaches.
  • Working in collaboration and cooperation with the student activities director and other personnel in recommending the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
  • Overseeing or helping oversee maintenance, safety and cleanliness of uniforms, equipment, supplies and the facility or area to be used.
  • Adhering to all VHSL policies and procedures as well as regulations imposed by the RPS division.
  • Enforcing discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times.
  • Responsible for the issuing and collecting of all school properties used.
  • Cooperatively planning for an annual recognition program for all qualifying participating students.
  • Performing other related duties as required.
