About The Position

Assist the head cheerleading coach in overseeing the cheerleading program at Tennessee High School. The role aims to provide overall leadership, supervision, and coordination of the cheerleading program, fostering an atmosphere that promotes the development of skills for competitive participation. The program emphasizes academics, discipline, high morals, team play, integrity, sportsmanship, work ethic, and a competitive nature, preparing student-athletes to be productive citizens. The assistant coach is expected to be a person of high moral character and integrity, loyal to the head coach and administration, and represent the school professionally. Compliance with all TSSAA rules and regulations is required. The role involves creating a climate that emphasizes discipline and hard work on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Requirements

  • Previous cheerleading coaching experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Valid Tennessee teaching certificate preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Ability to understand instructions and underlying principles.
  • Ability to reason and make judgments.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to resolve problems and solve disagreements through conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work with others.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach to evaluate and formulate an improvement plan for the overall cheerleading program.
  • Provide supervision of student-athletes involved in Tennessee High Cheerleading.
  • Assist the head coach with practices.
  • Assist the head coach with coordinating all game day activities.
  • Promote the cheerleading program in both the school and the community and serve as the spokesperson in the area of public relations for Tennessee High Cheerleading.
  • Work cooperatively with school staff, student-athletes, and parents in promoting Tennessee High Cheerleading.
  • Work cooperatively with coaches of other sports to ensure the overall success of Tennessee High Athletics.
  • Perform all duties assigned by the head coach.
  • Maintain and oversee the safety conditions of all dressing rooms, facilities, and equipment used by Tennessee High Cheerleading.
  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  • Enforce the code of conduct and expectations for the Tennessee High Cheerleading program.
  • Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the athletic director.
  • Ensure accident/injury reports are submitted to the athletic office in a prompt manner.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the off-season strength and conditioning program.
