About The Position

The Assistant Case Manager/SPED Teacher assesses, implements, and maintains special education programs and services in accordance with federal and state administrative rules and in alignment with policies of Global Psychological (GP). The Assistant Case Manager/SPED Teacher provides direct guidance and/or supervision to GP special education staff, as well as acting as a resource and support to ancillary staff and other school personnel. When providing instruction, develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in special education curriculum/instruction or related field (degree can be in progress)
  • Illinois PEL with LBS1 endorsement
  • Applicable current certification(s) – Supervisor, Administrator, or Director of Special Education (can be in progress)
  • Minimum five (5) years of special education experience
  • Thorough knowledge of special education requirements in K-12 school setting
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills with an ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers and staff at all levels
  • Must demonstrate a high level of professional integrity, ethics, and confidentiality
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking, problem solving, and data analysis to a wide range of problems
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Ability to utilize software programs and tools efficiently

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains a variety of records (confidential and non-confidential) and files for the purpose of ensuring accurate documentation in accordance with administrative and legal requirements
  • Prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and ensuring compliance
  • Plans and coordinates all IEP and 504 meetings as well as any meetings related to these processes
  • Maintains meeting compliance in accordance with state and local guidelines
  • Coordinates the identification of students’ needs, resolves issues, and provides guidance regarding the development of individualized methods of instruction
  • Coordinates, adapts, and ensures execution of special education services and programs as assigned for the purpose of delivering services as outlined in the IEP
  • Maintains records, communicates, and collaborates with District Discipline Team to ensure students who display behaviors that violate the Student Code of Conduct are addressed with fairness and adequate interventions are put in place to effect behavioral change
  • Collaborates with other members of the leadership team to identify, implement, and evaluate special education programs and services for the purpose of meeting the school and program’s goals and objectives
  • Addresses emergencies and problems through investigation, data gathering, and analysis and creates and executes resolution plans
  • Supports the Testing Coordinator to ensure students have proper documentation for accommodation and modifications and receive them during standardized testing windows
  • Collaborates with building leadership, special and general education teachers, outside agencies, parents, etc. for the purpose of conveying information, providing curriculum support and/or assisting in the development of specialized accommodations
  • Attends meetings, and in-services that are relevant to the effective management of services to students with special needs
  • Communicates with immediate supervisor, administrative staff, and appropriate school-level staff concerning assigned programs and activities
  • Meets regularly with staff, holds regular department meetings, and participates in committees as requested by administration or supervisor
  • Design instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels to the general education curriculum
  • Prepare student individual education plans in consultation with parents and IEP team members
  • Deliver instruction designed to meet goals and objectives of IEP’s and treatment plans
  • Develop individualized and educationally appropriate goals and objectives for IEPs in all areas
  • Participate in the development of individualized behaviors plans and transition plans according to district guidelines
  • Makes recommendations based upon assessment data. Evaluates academic proficiency and determines appropriate academic curriculum for students based upon assessment data, age, strengths, and special needs
  • Manage classroom organization to facilitate a constructive learning environment
  • Intervenes in escalating behaviors and utilizes de-escalation techniques; demonstrates knowledge of guidelines regarding behavioral interventions
  • Case Manager role will be blended with Teacher role up to and including classroom management, interdisciplinary administration, and lesson/assessment planning
  • Other related duties as assigned
