About The Position

As an Assistant Buyer at The Feed, you will support the buying team across purchase order execution, vendor communication, product setup and maintenance, reporting, and administrative coordination. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and eager to grow in a fast-paced startup environment. This role will start with a strong focus on supporting the buying team and learning core processes. As performance and trust build, there will be opportunities to take on more ownership, including managing select vendors and placing purchase orders independently. This role reports to the Buying Manager and supports multiple buyers across the business. NOTE: This is an in-office position, located in Broomfield, CO.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience in a buying, merchandising, operations, inventory, or similar environment preferred. We are also open to candidates with limited experience who are highly motivated, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in buying.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic to intermediate Excel skills.
  • Comfort learning and working in multiple systems and tools.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to pull and interpret basic business data.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders while also handling individual responsibilities independently.

Responsibilities

  • Buying Support and Order Execution
  • Create and process weekly purchase orders with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Support buyers in executing against provided forecasts and inventory needs.
  • Monitor and update purchase order statuses, and communicate delays or issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Review open orders and help track exceptions, including late POs and vendor follow-up needs.
  • Over time, begin placing purchase orders independently for select vendors as experience and trust grow.
  • Vendor Coordination
  • Communicate with suppliers to obtain quotes, confirm details, and track order status.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with vendors to support timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Support light vendor communication related to pricing, timing, and order follow-up.
  • Coordinate with vendors and the warehouse to resolve shipping and delivery issues.
  • Book freight for shipments as needed.
  • Manage the purchasing team email inbox and route issues appropriately.
  • Product and System Maintenance
  • Set up new SKUs and coordinate with the e-commerce team on website setup.
  • Update costing and retail price changes in internal systems.
  • Maintain accurate product and purchasing data across platforms.
  • Handle miscellaneous SKU and system maintenance as needed.
  • Reporting and Analysis
  • Pull and organize basic reporting related to purchasing, inventory, and product performance.
  • Track and report on key issues such as late purchase orders, best sellers, and worst sellers.
  • Compile data related to supplier performance and purchasing trends.
  • As the person develops in the role, begin contributing more insights and recommendations based on the data.
  • Administrative Support
  • Organize and maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and vendor communications.
  • Assist with invoicing and billing discrepancies as needed.
  • Help ensure buying-related processes are executed consistently and accurately across the team.
