About The Position

The Assistant Bridge Program Manager is responsible for determining the scope of a project, monitoring the project schedule and budget, making engineering decisions, preparing environmental documents and maintaining the administrative record, and ensuring proper public engagement is conducted. This position also has the responsibility of managing the preparation of functional and preliminary designs as well as overseeing development of engineering plans for right-of-way acquisition and construction. The employee will ensure prompt and efficient coordination internally and externally including, but not limited to, environmental agencies, Division and Central Staff, public officials, general public, etc. Additional duties include performing advanced engineering calculations, providing engineering technical assistance, and assisting in the development and implementation of various Division programs. This position also responds to inquiries from the public, DOT management, news media, etc., regarding DOT policies and procedures, division projects, plans and proposed work. In this position you will review final project data submitted by others to prepare necessary bid documents and ensure and incorporate appropriate standard provisions, special provisions and pay items. Other duties include assisting the Division Contract Engineer to advertise and distribute bid documents to interested parties, administering bid openings, and processing bid documents utilizing SAP, HiCAMs, and various other software. The selected candidate will assist the Division Contract Engineer with various tasks to accomplish Division letting goals and assist with management of the Division municipal agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
