About The Position

This position assists the Bridge and Hydraulics Engineer in designing and preparing plans and reports for bridge and other major drainage structures, as well as reviewing and supervising work done by consulting engineers. In the absence of the Bridge and Hydraulics Engineer, this position is responsible for providing any requested expertise on bridge and hydraulic matters, for ensuring plan and report preparations continue to progress, and for providing project continuity in their absence.

Requirements

Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
Four years of experience in civil engineering.
Requires a valid driver’s license.
Requires districtwide travel which may include overnight stays
Requires overtime.
Requires successful completion of a background screening.

Ability to conduct engineering research and to write technical reports.
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering.
Extensive knowledge in design/construction engineering.
Strong computer skills including Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), web-based databases, and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

Assists in the preparation of hydraulic, bridge condition, and structure reports and analyses to ensure that they are accurate, neat, complete, and in compliance with the Bureau of Design and Environment’s (BDE) Manual and Drainage Manuals and Policies.
Assists in reviewing work prepared by consultants and district personnel in hydraulic and bridge designs that are used to evaluate the scope of work and the structure type, size, and location using survey information and field trip data.
Performs field investigations and recommends corrective action for hydraulic problems and ensures that information for report and plan preparation is accurate and completed on a timely basis.
Prepares bridge repair plans and other drainage repair plans for the annual district program which are accurate, complete, and in compliance with Design Standards and Policies.
Handles documentation of key decisions made in report preparation needed to help keep bridge and hydraulics related files up to date.
Keeps informed of current departmental and district policies and procedures to ensure projects and reports are compliant with current policies and procedures.
Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
