Assistant Boys' Basketball Coach - THS
About The Position
This position will assist the head basketball coach in overseeing the basketball program at Tennessee High School. The role aims to provide overall leadership, supervision, and coordination of the basketball program, fostering an environment that promotes skill development for competitive participation. The program is intended to be an extension of the academic program, emphasizing academics, discipline, high morals, team play, integrity, sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic. The assistant coach is expected to be a person of high moral character, loyal to the head coach and administration, and represent the school professionally.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Valid Tennessee teaching certificate preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Ability to understand instructions and underlying principles.
- Ability to reason and make judgments.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to resolve problems and solve disagreements through conflict resolution.
- Ability to work with others.
Nice To Haves
- Previous basketball coaching experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach to evaluate and formulate an improvement plan for the overall basketball program.
- Provide supervision of student-athletes involved in Tennessee High Basketball.
- Assist the head coach with practices.
- Assist the head coach with coordinating all game day activities.
- Promote the basketball program in both the school and the community and serve as the spokesperson in the area of public relations for Tennessee High Basketball.
- Work cooperatively with school staff, student-athletes, and parents in promoting Tennessee High Basketball.
- Work cooperatively with coaches of other sports to ensure the overall success of Tennessee High Athletics.
- Perform all duties assigned by the head coach.
- Maintain and oversee the safety conditions of all dressing rooms, facilities, and equipment used by Tennessee High Basketball.
- Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
- Enforce the code of conduct and expectations for the Tennessee High Basketball program.
- Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the athletic director.
- Ensure accident/injury reports are submitted to the athletic office in a prompt manner.
- Assist with the development and implementation of the off-season strength and conditioning program.
