About The Position

The Assistant Biologist I is responsible for performing routine, GLP-compliant laboratory activities in support of ecotoxicology studies. Under supervision, the incumbent executes study- and protocol-specific procedures in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), study protocols, and applicable regulatory guidelines. The position supports daily study maintenance, organism husbandry, equipment calibration and maintenance, and accurate real-time data collection. The Assistant Biologist I is expected to maintain laboratory cleanliness, adhere to all safety requirements, and contribute to the integrity, reliability, and regulatory compliance of study data.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory procedures in accordance with approved protocols, SOPs, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations, and established timelines, under supervision.
  • Conduct daily maintenance of studies and associated test systems, including preparation, monitoring, and documentation activities.
  • Perform daily husbandry of test organisms, including feeding, health observations, and environmental monitoring, as applicable.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and document the status of routine laboratory equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Accurately and contemporaneously record observations, measurements, and other study-related data in controlled data capture systems.
  • Maintain laboratory hygiene, storage areas, and inventory levels according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Handle environmental samples (e.g., water, sediment, soil, plant or animal tissues) and test materials following training and authorization.
  • Perform basic algebraic and dosing calculations as required for study execution.
  • Ensure proper handling, labeling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and wastes in accordance with safety manuals and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize standard laboratory equipment and basic mechanical tools safely and effectively.
  • Support internal coordination of testing activities with Chemistry, Quality Assurance, and Reporting functions, as assigned.
  • Comply with all chemical hygiene, laboratory safety, GLP, and company policies.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and successfully pass a DOT physical examination.
  • Operate company vehicles and associated seawater collection equipment in compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Collect and transport seawater and associated materials over varied terrain and weather conditions.
  • Perform routine inspection, basic troubleshooting, and maintenance of seawater collection equipment and vehicles, with documentation.
  • Wear respiratory or additional protective equipment on an as-needed basis.
  • Work extended hours or weekends as required to support study schedules.
