This role involves performing duties of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) while also taking on Assistant Behavior Intervention Specialist (ABIS) responsibilities. The ABIS ensures the supervision, protection, and care of individuals, helping them maximize their strengths and connect with the community. Key functions include leading community inclusion activities, providing therapeutic supervision, understanding person-specific needs, and working with BIS to implement clinical interventions. The ABIS also trains direct care staff, participates in treatment plan development, monitors data collection, and maintains documentation. They attend team meetings, lead shifts when needed, and ensure compliance with regulations like HIPAA. For certain assignments, operating a YAI vehicle may be required. Experienced ABIS may be assigned to the BIS Department to support multiple programs, train new staff, and integrate into various teams.
