About The Position

This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in athletics. The role also involves communicating with parents, students, and staff regarding attendance issues, maintaining attendance records, preparing reports, and processing documents related to student attendance and welfare. The coach will also recommend pupil referrals to the school principal or designee for various agencies and assist with coordinating referrals to the District School Attendance Review Board. Participation in in-service training for school personnel on student attendance and welfare is also expected.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and community
  • Working with district/state/federal laws and regulations relating to child welfare and attendance
  • Knowledge of youth programs, school and community activities
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, fax, printer, computer and copier
  • Interpersonal, Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well with the community at large, including parents and students
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to effectively organize, manage, and direct the work of others; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching and providing direction to student athletes to achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
  • Conferring regularly with School Operations Managers, School Principal, or their designees regarding student attendance and welfare.
  • Communicating with parents, students, and staff in person, by telephone, or letter regarding attendance issues and meeting district and state absence notification requirements.
  • Maintaining a variety of attendance records, schedules, and files (manual and computer) for compliance with district policies.
  • Preparing a variety of reports and written materials for the purpose of conveying information regarding school and/or district activities and procedures.
  • Processing documents and materials for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
  • Responding to inquiries from staff, parents, probation officers, other schools, and students.
  • Recommending pupil referrals to the school principal or designee for agencies such as child guidance clinics, family services, and placement agencies.
  • Assisting the principal or School Attendance Team with coordinating, referring, and submitting School Attendance Review Board referrals.
  • Participating in in-service training of school personnel in matters related to student attendance and welfare.
