About The Position

This role involves assisting with coaching duties for a university baseball program, with a primary focus on recruitment and hitting. The position requires a blend of on-field coaching, academic monitoring, compliance adherence, recruiting efforts, and student-athlete mentoring. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach and other athletic department staff to promote the baseball program and the university.

Requirements

  • Experience with coaching baseball, particularly with catchers and/or outfielders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coaching in practices and games, including practice planning.
  • Assist in coaching during practices, with a primary emphasis on working with Catchers and/or outfielders.
  • Conduct scouting activities related to preparation for upcoming contests, including film study and scouting report preparation.
  • Coordinate and conduct individual workouts primarily with catchers and/or outfielders.
  • Coordinate and conduct preseason-conditioning work (excluding weight training).
  • Monitor study hall and ensure players complete necessary hours each week.
  • Perform periodic academic checks and ensure student athletes are getting progress reports completed and signed by professors.
  • Arrange tutors as needed for student athletes.
  • Work with players and Associate A.D. for Academics on schedules and to ensure satisfactory progress toward graduation.
  • Monitor the academic status of each athlete to ensure team members are maintaining eligibility.
  • Perform other duties related to academic progress as directed by the Head Coach or Athletics Director.
  • Assist the program's compliance with NCAA, Atlantic Sun Conference, and LU rules and regulations.
  • Keep records of weekly activities and recruiting activities for staff and on-campus official/unofficial recruiting visits.
  • Evaluate prospects’ transcripts and handle the verification process with LU Admissions Office.
  • Conduct off-campus recruiting and talent evaluation.
  • Coordinate periodic Scoutware emails to recruits.
  • Lead and coordinate on-campus official/unofficial visits.
  • Assist head coach with scheduling.
  • Primary responsibility for ordering all equipment and gear annually.
  • Primary responsibility for coordination with in-coming student athletes for admissions and housing-related activities.
  • Primary responsibility for detailed computer reports for in-game and practice video evaluation.
  • Responsible for weekly opponents scouting reports.
  • Assist with field maintenance duties.
  • Promote an attitude among student athletes that winning is important but secondary to good sportsmanship and overall athlete welfare.
  • Be a leader among the student athletes.
  • Assist with the spiritual development of student athletes, meet with players one-on-one, and be available for team members.
  • Maintain an environment where athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image.
  • Demonstrate interest in and promote excellence among student-athletes in the classroom, community service, character development, and off-season activities.
  • Provide leadership that promotes positive attitudes, good sportsmanship, and Christian character.
  • Provide ongoing individual support and guidance for team members.
  • Supervise, where applicable, graduate assistants and volunteers.
  • Assist with promotional and fundraising efforts for the Baseball program, athletic department, and university.
  • Appear on behalf of the program, coordinate appearances by others, handle communications with media and donors, and support fund-raising events.
