About The Position

This role involves assisting the head coach with various aspects of the baseball program, including coaching, scouting, academic monitoring, compliance, recruiting, equipment management, and student-athlete development. The position requires a strong emphasis on hitting, catcher/outfielder development, and fostering a positive team environment that prioritizes sportsmanship and athlete welfare. The assistant coach will also play a role in promoting the program and the university.

Requirements

  • Experience with coaching, particularly in hitting, catching, or outfield positions.
  • Experience with scouting and film analysis.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
  • Experience with academic monitoring of student athletes.
  • Experience with recruiting, including off-campus evaluation and on-campus visit coordination.
  • Proficiency in Scoutware or similar recruiting software.
  • Experience with ordering equipment and gear.
  • Experience with admissions and housing coordination for student athletes.
  • Proficiency in computer reporting for video evaluation.
  • Experience with preparing scouting reports.
  • Experience with field maintenance duties.
  • Ability to lead and mentor student athletes, fostering positive attitudes and Christian character.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise graduate assistants and volunteers.
  • Willingness to assist with promotional and fundraising efforts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with weight training coordination (though this is excluded from primary duties, experience may be beneficial).
  • Experience with spiritual development initiatives for athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coaching in practices and games, with a primary emphasis on working with Catchers and/or outfielders.
  • Assist with all practice planning activities.
  • Conduct scouting activities, including film study and preparation of scouting reports for upcoming contests.
  • Coordinate and conduct individual workouts, primarily with catchers and/or outfielders.
  • Coordinate and conduct preseason-conditioning work (excluding weight training).
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress, including study hall hours, progress reports, and ensuring eligibility.
  • Arrange tutors as needed for student athletes and work with academic advisors on schedules.
  • Assist in ensuring the program's compliance with NCAA, Atlantic Sun Conference, and LU rules and regulations.
  • Maintain records of weekly activities and recruiting activities, including on-campus visits.
  • Evaluate prospects' transcripts and coordinate verification with the Admissions Office.
  • Conduct off-campus recruiting and talent evaluation.
  • Coordinate Scoutware emails to recruits.
  • Lead and coordinate on-campus official/unofficial visits.
  • Assist the head coach with scheduling.
  • Order all equipment and gear annually.
  • Coordinate with in-coming student athletes for admissions and housing.
  • Prepare detailed computer reports for in-game and practice video evaluation.
  • Prepare weekly opponent scouting reports.
  • Assist with field maintenance duties.
  • Promote an attitude among student athletes that winning is important but secondary to good sportsmanship and athlete welfare.
  • Be a leader among student athletes, assisting with spiritual development and providing one-on-one support.
  • Maintain an environment for athletes to gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image.
  • Demonstrate interest in and promote excellence among student-athletes in academics, community service, character development, and off-season activities.
  • Provide leadership that promotes positive attitudes, good sportsmanship, and Christian character.
  • Provide ongoing individual support and guidance for team members.
  • Supervise graduate assistants and volunteers.
  • Assist with promotional and fundraising efforts for the Baseball program, athletic department, and university.
  • Coordinate appearances on behalf of the program and communicate with media, campus, and donors.
