About The Position

The Assistant Bakery Manager provides excellent customer satisfaction through the management and leadership of Bakery Clerks and assists the Bakery Manager with daily supervision of Bakery Department operations. The role helps manage and merchandise the department for productivity and profit, oversees ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Bakery team, and supports execution of store health, safety, and sanitation requirements. The position works in a fast-paced retail grocery and bakery environment, delivering friendly customer service while handling merchandise, store deliveries, and bakery equipment. The role requires a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and requires maintaining a Food Handlers permit.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a minimum of two years of retail grocery experience.
Have two years of supervisory experience.
Be dependable and reliable, with the ability to work a changing, flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Have good communication skills and the ability to give and take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
Know how to use scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
Be able to stand continuously for up to three hours and for a total of eight hours per shift.
Be able to vertically transfer trays weighing up to 5 pounds from 7 to 64 inches for up to 10 hours.
Be able to transfer items weighing up to 40 pounds vertically and horizontally from 5 to 36 inches, over distances up to 36 feet, for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance.
Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations.
Obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

Assist the Bakery Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
Manage ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Bakery team.
Execute merchandise rotation and build displays.
Monitor incoming cases for damaged items.
Ensure excellent customer service and monitor the quality of Bakery products.
Unload and sort store deliveries; operate and maintain deli equipment.
Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations are followed, and verify that Bakery team members are aware of and follow these procedures.
Answer phones and take special orders.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
