About The Position

The Assistant Baker prepares baked goods to quality standards in a clean and efficient manner under the direction of the Executive Baker. The position supports Food and Nutrition Services Central Operations and helps promote good community relations. The role packages and fills orders for school kitchens and catering, operates and maintains bakery equipment, applies recipe measurements, assists with cleaning and taste testing, and may manage the bakery temporarily when the Executive Baker or Baker is absent. The position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
One year of professional work experience.
Effective written and verbal communication.
Basic math and computer skills.
Self-motivated with excellent attendance.

Responsibilities

Prepare baked goods to quality standards while maintaining cleanliness and efficiency.
Package and fill orders for each school kitchen and the catering department.
Operate bakery equipment and perform routine preventive equipment maintenance.
Apply mathematics, including weights, measures, and quantities, to recipes.
Work cooperatively with central operations employees and school kitchen staff.
Manage the bakery temporarily as needed in the absence of the Executive Baker or Baker.
Assist with daily cleanup, including pots and pans.
Adapt recipes and techniques to comply with National School Lunch and Breakfast Program regulations and guidelines.
Perform major cleaning of refrigerators, freezers, storerooms, ovens, and other equipment.
Assist with taste testing at schools and other assigned locations.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
