The Oregon Department of Justice is hiring two full-time Assistant Attorneys General in the Consumer Protection Unit of the Economic Justice Section, within the Civil Enforcement Division. The attorneys will investigate and litigate violations of laws prohibiting deceptive, unfair, and unconscionable business practices. The work is high-profile and may involve complex litigation in areas including consumer finance, auto sales, health care, technology, and retail sales. Attorneys handle all phases of civil investigations and litigation in state and federal court, including developing cases and investigation strategies, conducting and reviewing civil discovery, drafting and arguing motions, trying cases, and negotiating settlements. The Section collaborates with consumer protection enforcement partners in other states on regional and national issues. Attorneys may also assist with other Economic Justice Section matters, such as antitrust, privacy, or false claims, as needed. The ideal candidates can identify and develop cases, plan next steps, anticipate obstacles, and move cases toward trial or resolution. They are self-directed and collaborative, and approach legal issues creatively and strategically. Positions may be based in Portland or Salem, with particular interest in attorneys based in Salem, and are eligible for a hybrid remote-work schedule. The role may involve occasional travel, including overnight stays.
