The Statewide Grand Jury Bureau is authorized by Illinois statute to prosecute multi-county cases involving drugs, guns, or computers. Working regularly with state and federal counterparts, the Bureau focuses on complex, often large scale, organized criminal activity. The candidate must be able to work all aspects of moderately complex drug felony prosecutions as assigned. The prosecutions are vertical, which is to say that the AAG is responsible for all phases of his or her case, from investigation and grand jury presentation, through trial and post-trial motions. Travel is frequent, as the jurisdiction of the Bureau comprises all 102 Illinois counties. Additional duties might include assisting other bureaus with criminal trials or civil detention hearings (SVP cases), prosecuting civil drug asset forfeitures or nuisance abatements, and preparing periodic activity reports.
