About The Position

The Washington State Attorney General's Office is seeking an attorney to serve in its Regional Services Division in Wenatchee, WA. This role involves a fast-paced litigation environment with frequent court appearances. Attorneys in this division may be assigned to a variety of clients based on agency needs, and the attorney's skills, experience, and professional development goals. Requirements

  • Graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program.
  • Licensed to practice law in Washington state (applicants actively pursuing admission by motion will also be considered).
  • Ability to quickly adapt to a practice involving assignment of 60 or more cases at a time.
  • Ability to shift from one type of work to another during a given week or day.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with a variety of client agency representatives, as well as with attorney and non-attorney colleagues.
  • Exercise independent judgment within the context of a large law office striving to provide consistent representation to client agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage time.
  • Ability to identify and prioritize tasks necessary to complete.
  • Ability to maintain a well-organized practice under significant caseload demands.
  • Commitment to public service as demonstrated by background, talents, attitude, and enthusiasm for public law practice.

Responsibilities

  • Represent DCYF in child welfare cases, including dependency, guardianship, and termination of parental rights cases.
  • Represent the Department of Labor and Industries and the Department of Social and Health Services.
  • Litigate before the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals, the Office of Administrative Hearings, and trial and appellate courts.
  • Evaluate evidence to determine legal sufficiency for court intervention.
  • Review relevant petitions and other documents.
  • Apply the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Washington Indian Child Welfare Act to juvenile cases.
  • Consult with social workers and other agency employees.
  • Submit and respond to discovery.
  • Prepare witnesses and evidence for hearings or trials.
  • Review reports submitted to the court.
  • Perform research and analysis.
  • Submit relevant briefing to the court.
  • Communicate with other attorneys and guardians ad litem to resolve case issues.
  • Consider settlement options.
  • Take all other actions related to these matters.
  • Provide advice and legal representation for DCYF in child welfare cases and foster home and group care licensing cases.
  • Handle vulnerable adult protection cases, community-based long-term care facility licensing cases, and miscellaneous superior court matters for DSHS.
  • Be willing to be assigned to any of the client agencies.
