About The Position

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Attorney General to join the Gaming Enforcement Division within the Criminal Bureau in the Western Massachusetts Office (WMAS) in Springfield, MA. The WMAS Office handles legal matters across various Attorney General’s Office (AGO) bureaus, including Criminal, Energy & Environmental, Government, Health Care & Fair Competition, and Public Protection & Advocacy. It also provides direct assistance to residents on civil rights, consumer, and labor issues, and acts as a regional center for AGO-wide initiatives involving community outreach, education, and policy. This role focuses on investigating and prosecuting complex criminal cases within Western Massachusetts, with a specialization in gaming-related matters. The Gaming Enforcement Division is a statewide team comprising prosecutors, investigators, and support staff, working in partnership with the Massachusetts State Police to investigate and prosecute gaming crimes under G.L. c. 12 § 11M.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar and a practicing attorney.
  • At least five (5) years of experience as an attorney, preferably in state criminal practice.
  • Ability to handle a large and advanced caseload and comfortable appearing in court.
  • Ability to conduct long- and short-term investigations, including lengthy grand jury investigations.
  • Excellent legal writing experience and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, team-player, disciplined, ethical, and willing to learn, with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Demonstrate a connection to the people and communities served.
  • Interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of, or ability to gain understanding of, Massachusetts statutes involving money laundering, all aspects of illegal gaming, larceny, domestic violence, and sexual assault is highly desirable.
  • Trial experience in Superior Court or U.S. District Court is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and prosecute all crimes originating at or connected to casinos, including firearm-related crimes, narcotics, domestic violence, sexual assaults, sophisticated larcenies, gaming-related financial crimes, organized crime, corruption, and money laundering.
  • Handle violations of G.L. c. 23K, G.L. c. 23N, G.L. c. 267A, and G.L. c. 271.
  • Handle a complex caseload and lead and coordinate investigations and prosecutions with State Police, other prosecutors, victim/witness advocates, paralegals, and support staff.
  • Screen potential cases.
  • Foster relationships with industry stakeholders.
  • Participate in training.
  • Provide occasional district court coverage.
  • Work cohesively with others in the Office of the Attorney General.
  • Travel as needed to other areas of the Commonwealth in support of investigations.
