About The Position

The Missouri Attorney General's Office is seeking attorneys with excellent credentials for an Assistant Attorney General/Unit Leader position in the Civil Trial Section. The Civil Trial Section vigorously defends the State of Missouri, including state officials, agencies, and individual employees. The Section handles complex litigation and protects Missouri's laws from challenges. The Section represents many state agencies and law enforcement officers. The Unit Leader will supervise attorneys in federal and state courts across various practice areas such as class-actions, employment, personal injury, and civil rights suits. The Unit Leader will manage their own caseload through all stages of litigation, including appeals. This role involves jury trial practice, weekly attorney mentoring, client meetings, fostering collaboration, and developing/providing training.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in Missouri or able to quickly obtain a Missouri license.
  • 3 years or more experience in civil defense litigation
  • Jury trial experience
  • State and Federal court experience
  • Management or mentorship experience
  • Excellent legal writing, oral advocacy, and litigation strategy skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise attorneys appearing in federal and state courts.
  • Maintain own caseload through all stages of litigation, including appeals.
  • Conduct jury trial practice.
  • Lead weekly attorney mentoring meetings.
  • Meet with agency clients.
  • Build collaboration across the section.
  • Develop and provide training for the section.
