About The Position

Manages assistant attorneys general, outside counsel and legal staff with oversight by Senior Assistant Attorney General and Section Chief to ensure consistency in the delivery of legal services for Division of Child Support Enforcement of the Virginia Department of Social Services cases in state and federal courts. Performs personnel functions including evaluating, recruiting, hiring, training and improving the performance of attorneys; performs administrative duties; attends and presents at conferences, seminars and continuing legal education, chairs and works on special projects, committees and Division statewide workgroups, as assigned. Represents the Division in its mission to determine paternity and establish, modify, and enforce support obligations; litigates in state and federal courts; provides counsel, legal services and training to the Division regarding cases, program guidance and procedure; participates on committees and workgroups as requested. This attorney position is assigned to represent the following courts on behalf of the Division of Child Support Enforcement: Albemarle, Buena Vista, Charlottesville, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Orange, Waynesboro

Requirements

  • Excellent litigation, organization, research, writing, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Proficiency in time management and ability to work independently with client agency and as a team member are essential.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel.
  • Must be admitted to the Virginia bar.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in representing a governmental entity preferred but not required.
  • The optimal candidate will have significant litigation experience and the ability to prioritize the demands of a large caseload.
